“The basis for the National Language of the Philippines if Tagalog”. The constitution provided for a national language as Tagalog based despite the oppositions from other neighboring regions where Tagalog was not spoken. The idea of inputting other native languages was simply a future goal, but was not met. Filipino was based on Tagalog mainly because it served as the Lingua Franca of those who lived nearby the government capital. By the 1970’s, more than half of the Philippines community was speaking Tagalog due to it being the basis of the National Language. The people were somehow forced to learn and speak Tagalog in order to communicate with other neighboring regions especially those who are in power, the politicians. It is said that this was a positive thing because it teaches the people how to coincide with one another, and teaches them to work together. I think this failed to show any kind of support for the many diverse languages in the Philippines and rather gives a militaristic view on what the people should communicate with.
